Mayawati Statues in Mayaland

Jul 10, 2009 3 Comments »

A year ago, a drive from Noida to Delhi would mean greenery all around. But now a concrete wall greets you for a couple of kilometers. When one stops to find out what has changed, all one sees is construction and more construction.A look at the pillars gives one a good idea.  The Ashoka Pillar lookalikes have elephants instead of lions which will welcome you to UP chief minister Mayawati’s sandstone memorial bearing statues of Kanshi Ram and Mayawati.
A whopping sum of 11 hundred crores is supposedly being spent for the stucture which can instead be used in some way for the masses.
There are several residents in Noida who have voiced there concerns against the buliding of these statues and monuments.People like Vineet Chaudhary don’t  share Mayawati’s sentiments and hence filed an RTI in protest and was told that only 22 trees were cut. But thousands of them seem to have disappeared.

The apex court had on June 29 issued notice to the Uttar Pradesh government on Kant’s petition, alleging misuse of public funds for the installation of statues of Mayawati, Kanshi Ram and that of elephants - BSP’s election symbol.
However as always the voice of the masses have once again been supressed and the Government elected by us has defied our sentiments and gone ahead with giving an approval to this rather bizzare structure. It is stated that the apex court can not interfere in the matter in which the approval has been granted by the state Cabinet.
Kindly have a look at the comments on the article written by Anasuya Roy,NDTV http://www.ndtv.com/news/india/mayan_pillars_on_delhi-noida_road.php?page=1 and the latest verdict by the Supreme Court on http://www.ndtv.com/news/india/cant_stop_maya_from_installing_statues_sc.php

EXPECTATIONS FROM BUDGET 09-10 !!!

Jul 01, 2009 3 Comments »

The time has almost come and all of us are eagerly waiting as to what the budget 09-10 has in store for us. We surely want the Government to be easy on our pockets and help us increase our financial condition. I have been reading a lot particularly on www.ndtv.com and found some acts that this budget might portray.
Sources to NDTV speculate that the Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee could announce sweeping tax cuts for corporate and individuals when he presents the budget. The proposals to cut corporate tax from 30 per cent to 25 per cent and increasing personal income tax exemption limit from Rs.1.5 lakh at present to Rs.2.5 lakh or more can be a major step put forward by the Government.
However, the Government is weighing between the options of a cut in corporate tax or reviving the concept of investment allowance. The concept of investment allowance is aimed at giving a boost to the manufacturing sector. Under this scheme, if a company decides to deploy additional cash for expanding capacity on ‘generating employment’, the amount will be deductible from the taxable income of the company.
BMR Advisors Managing Partner Mukesh Butani also feels that the investment allowance will give a boost to the manufacturing sector. The concept of “investment allowance” was a policy of the government during the 1980s when the government wanted to encourage companies to invest in expanding capacity. With the pressure on growth, the government is hoping that the tax break could help to revive growth.
For Individuals it is to be believed that tax cuts will enhance consumer spending and it would improve tax compliance.
Among other sectors Gas production is also expected to get special tax benefits which will bring it at par with crude oil production. The hospitality sector could be given the industry status, which can help attract more investments for the sector.
I hope the finance minister Pranab Mukherjee turns the expectations into reality on the 6th of July to ensure a financially powerful India.

IS THERE A NEED FOR SCRAPPING CLASS 10 BOARD EXAMS??

Jun 26, 2009 4 Comments »

I read an article by the Union Human Resource Development Minister, Kapil Sibal on ndtv.com stating that he is planning to scrap the Class 10 board examination. http://www.ndtv.com/news/india/scrap_class_10_board_exams_says_kapil_sibal.php . The justification given for this was that examinations are a source of trauma for both parents and students. Do you think bcoz of the fear of this trauma, the examinations should be scrapped??
Class 10 exams are not just abt passing but are essential as they help in choosing the course streams for senior school. It’s on the basis of these marks that one decides as to whether one has a science, commerce or humanities aptitude. However, the minister feels that a fifteen year old is mature enough to decide as to what he/she wants to do in life and if needed can be allotted a stream on the basis of internal assessment prepared by the class teacher.
His idea of revolution in education does not only propose the scrapping of class 10 board exams but also of having a common exam for college admissions in class 12, which means basically scrapping  the class 12 board exams.
One idea of Mr. Minister that amuses me the most is that if a student is moving from class 10 to class 11 in the same school he/she can opt out of giving the exam. An optional class 10 board exam??
I seriously feel that these moves by the HRD will not strengthen but weaken the education system. Not having board exams as they are traumatic for the parents and the students is a mere excuse of the child being weak or not having studied the entire year.
.
A lot of questions that were asked to Mr.Sibal were answered on NDTV’S show. This is the video link of it (

DEPENDENCE ON DOMESTIC HELP.

Jun 19, 2009 No Comments »

India-a free independent country which makes us believe that we should not be dependent on others completely contradicts the statement. Its a shame that we need to depend on our domestic help for doing our work.
Basic work like…washing our own linen is a pain to us. Even though we are the ones who use them. Cleaning our own house is a big task but living in it isn’t….cooking our own meals is time consuming but eating it is fun.
In a fast paced environment where one has to do so much then why rely for such petit things on our servants…why have another person working for us.
If one really wants to learn something from Americans, then why not learn to work like them. They too go to offices and slog at work but still have the time to get back home and clean the dishes and do the laundary .They don’t need any servants for help. Then why do we stoop so low.
Apart from this what concerns me even more is the way these ppl are ill treated. We must realize we do not own them and need to treat them well. Its shocking to find out how children as young as 6, to ppl as old as 80 treat the domestic help. Every one of us knows in some way or the other that they have misused their financial powers to dominate on the poor.
I recently read one of the most highlighted case of Shiney Ahuja, actor alleged rape charges of a domestic help on NDTV.COM and found it extremely shocking.Im sure there are several more cases in our not so celebrity lives that have similar leads.
I often wonder what amusement do ppl derive out of this harshness and cruelty towards the ppl who do so much for us.
As a sincere request to everyone reading this. I would want all of you to go home and make a difference today. Slavery was banned ages ago and I urge you to be kind to the domestic help and help yourself on your own wherever possible.

Why people feel sleepy when they read?

Jun 02, 2009 3 Comments »

Have you ever wondered why we feel sleepy when we read for a long time?

I found the answer when I was going through some of the Scientific facts in internet.

We usually feel sleepy when we study or read for a longer time. We conclude that we feel sleepy as the subject we are reading is boring or uninteresting.

But the actual reason is not that. We feel sleepy due to the posture in which we study. When we are studying for a long time continuously, lack of physical activity decreases our blood flow to muscles.

Due to this lactic acid accumulation takes place. Lactic acid is formed due to incomplete combustion in cells. Lactic acid is an agent which absorbs oxygen and it readily reacts with oxygenated blood thus reducing the flow of oxygenated blood to the brain.

Yawning also occurs due to reduction in the amount of oxygen in blood. So the amount of oxygenated blood to brain reduces and makes us feel sleepy.

To avoid this we have to take occasional breaks while studying, which involves some physical activity.

Its time to VOTE!!!!!

Jun 02, 2009 No Comments »

Hurray…..Its time for me to cast my first vote.

Today(13/5/2009). I woke up in the morning with lot of dreams to cast my vote for the first time in my life.Since i am voting for the first time in my life,I was little bit enthusiastic and excited. Before the day of voting two questions unhinged me.They are:

  • Why should i vote?
  • To which candidate should I vote?

These two bugged me for a week.I started finding a solution myself. so my first question “Why should i Vote?” I found two solutions for this answer.

First reason: India is a democratic country. So its our duty to cast vote and select a good leader. So as a citizen of india its our duty to vote.

Second reason: Someone else may vote with our name. This should not be encouraged.

I found the reasons rather convincing. So i decided to vote.

My next question…To whom should i vote? I don’t know anything about politics.I dont know who is better than the others.

So i took my query to my parents. Both of them ended up with two different answers and when i asked the reason for selecting those persons, they gave some reason which was not convincing. So then who else to ask? Its my friends. I asked many.I was left out with different choices and different views of my friends. But still I never found any answer convincing.

At last the day arrived.I got up early. Now a bit excited and tensed.I took my voters Id and left to the polling booth with my parents.I was still in a dilemma whether to vote or note.I reached the booth. There was a long queue. The list of candidates was specified and was shocked to see nearly 45 candidates contested. And how to choose who is the best among 45.Without prior knowledge, how am i going to select the right person? So while i was thinking of this one hour went as such.I was near the room in which i have to cast my vote. After few min i reached the place. I was asked some number by the officials.Unfortunately, since this was my first time i dont know the procedure. The official opened a book and started searching for my name.My fathers,Mothers and even my brothers was there in the list.

ALAS… I didn’t find mine…Since i was a newly applied one,my name was not present in the list. But i showed my voters ID.But i was not allowed to vote without the name in the list.

I was disappointed to the core.My dream of voting for the first time remained as  a dream itself.I returned home without voting. And now i have to wait for few more years to vote.

But i hope at that time i will be matured enough to find the solution for my second question.

So..my wait continues.

Teaching a service or a profession?

Jun 02, 2009 3 Comments »

I wonder whether teaching is a service or just a profession to earn money….

For me everyday starts with hot coffee and Newspapers.I usually read The Hindu and Times of India.Last week I was shocked to see a news…. Guess what? Its a 17 year old girl in her XII standard died in school due to severe asthma attack.

Staff reports say that the student suffered an asthma attack while she was attending a class. The school authorities delayed in taking the girl to the hospital. And the medical facilities in the school were not adequate to give first aid.

According to the sources,When the girl complained of her breathlessness, the school authorities instead of calling for an ambulance, instead called to her parents and waited for them to come. When they arrived she was taken to hospital and she was reported dead. Parents claim that why the school authorities waited until a car arrived from her house.

This happened last Tuesday.

Then again this week one boy drowned in swimming pool and died.Once again lack of good coach and various facilities were the primary reasons. It took place in Chennai and the coach was arrested.

And today I was really shocked to see a 10 year old girl died in school due to severe punishment. This took place somewhere near Calcutta.

According to sources, The teacher punished the girl with duster for making a mistake in her Bengali lessons. The girl vomited four times and when taken to hospital, she was found dead.

Three children dead in two weeks time. This is due to negligence of teachers, coach and lack of facilities. I wonder whether teachers work only for money and income, neglecting child’s safety and future.

I personally feel schools are no more a safe place for childrens. Everyone used to say Mother,Father,Guru,God(MATHA PITHA GURU DEIVAM).Does the teachers still hold a place ahead of god?Are they still eligible for the position ahead of god? I dont think so…..

childhood days

May 23, 2009 7 Comments »

Recently received an sms which took me to my childhood days.

  • I want to go back to the time when getting high meant on a swing..
  • when dad was d only hero..
  • when love was mum’s hug..
  • when dad’s shoulder was d highest place on earth..
  • when ur worst enemies were ur siblings..
  • when d only thing that could hurt were wounded knees..
  • when d only things broken were toys..
  • when candy was the best medicine and
  • when goodbye meant only till tomorrow.. now we realize life has changed so much.

Rembering all those small things which brings smile .That we fought,we cried,we laughed to all those small things.Be it fighting with sister/brother for TV remote control;be it sister wearing my dress/sandals or be it who finishing the meals first and so on.

We all enjoy childhood days.childhood memories are the only treasure,we always cherish in our heart. Our memories provide continuity between our past experiences and the current moment.Childhood memories are special for everyone.Everyone wish those golden days come back again in their life.Life is like a river we are moving without end nothing stays with us.What remains with us are the memories which no one can steal.
